Definitions
- DISC
- Automatic discovery of SAN devices, and usally creating a graphic topology map.
- MON & REP
- Monitoring and reporting successes failures on the SAN.
- LUN MASK
- The settings of LUN masking configurations from a central point.
- ZONE
- The creation of zones from a central point, usually across multiple devices and vendors.
- MULT PATH
- Dynamic multi-pathing software, working around failed HBAs, switches, etc.
- VOL MAN & VIRT
- Volume management and virtualization. The creation of virtual devices to mask the actual physical devices on the SAN.
- FILE SYS
- To be listed here, the product needs to support a multi-host-accessible, SAN-based filesystem.
- PERF & TREND
- Performance monitoring and trend analysis.
- BILL
- Cost center billing of storage resources.
- SNAPSHOT
- A snapshot is a virtual copy of a device or filesystem.
- REPLICATION
- Replication allows duplication and or syncronization of files and directories from one host to another. Only a small amount of bandwith is required.
- CACHING
- Caching is the ability to read the data into cache memory, making it available to a wide range of users.
